A Sprocket is a wheel with a specific tooth pitch that mesh with a chain that excepts same pitch. The name sprocket applies generally to any wheel upon which radial projections engage a chain passing over it.
Sprockets are specific to all powersports, so look at your stock sprocket or ask your local dealer for specs.
Rear Sprocket teeth divided by Front Sprocket teeth gives the gear ratio. Higher gear ratios have more acceleration, but less top speed. Lower gear ratios have less acceleration, higher top speed, sits at lower rpms for the same speed as a higher gear ratio. Going to less teeth in the front leads to a higher gear ratio.
Commons signs sprockets are wearing down are the chain won’t work properly with the sprocket teeth. The sprocket teeth become sharp at the tips and/or slightly curled.
Possible causes the chain or sprocket is worn, causing chain grouping. When chain pitch is greater than the pitch of the sprocket tooth, some chain rollers fail to meet the bottom of the tooth. As this section of chain comes off the load sprocket, the sudden excess of chain causes a slack.
Universal Joints allow drive shafts to move up and down with the suspension while the shaft is moving so power can be transmitted when the drive shaft isn't in a straight line between the transmission and drive wheels. Rear-wheel-drive vehicles have universal joints or U-joints at both ends of the drive shaft.
Common signs that your U Joints are going bad are clunking noise when shifting into drive or reverse: By far the most common symptom of a bad U-joint is a loud clunking or banging noise when Atv is in gear. Also, vibration while driving: A worn U-joint will cause an axle or driveshaft to lose its balance.
